Yesterday we finished the final panel of the front wall! Jodi, Carissa, Rob and I celebrated with a sip of Makers Mark 46, wishing that we had the rest of the team with us at this milestone (cheers Ally, Michi, and Lauren… I owe you a round).
I’m continuing to refine the design of the side wall, and I had a meeting with Makers and Leah to continue discussing the interior design of the vestibule. Leah presented a 3D fly through of the vestibule, and it showed our photos of the front wall as if they were stained glass, casting colored light onto the floor inside!
Back in the upstairs studio, I’ve asked each member of my team to construct a star panel basically from start to finish. With all of the other panels, we’ve been working collaboratively: I’ll cut the glass, then one of the team will grind and foil, another might solder, and someone else might patina and polish. I thought it would be neat for everyone to have a panel that, when they visited the distillery, they could point to and say “THAT ONE is mine!” Jodi finished and packed her star panel (tentatively 9A) yesterday.
Earlier in the week, we packed all of the finished panels into the smaller crates and moved them out of the studio into a safer spot (so that I don't need to freak out QUITE as much when tornado watches are announced during the crazy windstorms we’ve been having this summer). We were able to fit most of the completed panels into 5 crates, but Robert built 5 more, so that we’ll be sure to have ample room for the more delicate panels that contain the depression glass pieces, and for the side wall panels.
Today I’m taking a day off, and doing NOTHING.
